SEND is a modern day service open to all adults with learning disabilities. At SEND learners are able to continue to meet with their friends in an educational setting similar to school/college. This setting is permanent so adults do not have to leave once the ‘course’ is over. All our courses are continuous because we want to create a ‘college for life’ for all adults with learning disabilities. We cater to all levels of learners and provide sessions for lower up to higher ability learners. We are open all year, throughout half terms and summers, to give our adults the routine that they desperately need.
At SEND you will continue your studies in English and maths- which is important to help you progress in the wider community. You will also take part in a variety of activities every week and these include: independent living skills, work life projects, healthy living and cooking projects, film studies (with popcorn) and educational quizzes and games.
SEND is a great place to meet other adults with learning disabilities, where you can socialise and learn in a safe, relaxed and fun environment. We have classes available in Barry, Pontypridd, Trehafod and Aberdare.

WHAT OUR STUDENTS ARE SAYING
Demi, student at SEND Academy
“I am 19, I went to Ystrad Mynach College and Coleg Cymoedd. I love SEND because it’s so much fun. I’ve met lots of friends here and love the work we do. I missed college terribly, but SEND Academy is similar to College and I get to come here permanently. I also come twice a week”
Ethan, student at SEND Academy
“I am 21 and I have just finished College at Coleg Cymoedd. I like coming to SEND because the teachers give me work that I like to do. My old friends from College come here too and I have met new friends! I come for two days per week in Tonteg and Trehafod.”
WHAT WE DO
OUR FUN COMMUNITY CLASSES ARE AIMED AT ADULTS WITH MILD TO MODERATE LEARNING DISABILITIES.
We have centres available in Tonteg, Trehafod and Barry. Our clients access our service from the following areas: Cardiff, Barry, Bridgend, Pontypridd, Llantrisant, Caerphilly and Ystrad Mynach.
We help these adults transition from local colleges such as Coleg Cymoedd, Cardiff and Vale College, Bridgend
College and Ystrad Mynach College. To help with transition we offer most students summer placements with us. This helps individuals leaving college as they will have some sort of routine in place, which we know is so important!
